One of the top festival in the Philippines, Pahiyas Festival is second to Cebu's Sinulog Festival in terms of drawing local and foreign tourists.

The Philippines’ culture and heritage is indeed rich yet very diverse, this is apparent with Pahiyas Festival, which is held in Lucban, Quezon, Philippines every 15th day of May.

Tens of thousands of tourists, local and foreigners flock to this town to see wonderful houses that are embellished with colorful and captivating kipings, rice flakes and other produce.

These visitors indulged themselves with the explosion of colors and numerous adornments that are painstakingly whipped out here by the local residents. They never waver in taking pictures of the various unique houses even under the intense heat of the sun.

The colorful kipings, are those colored leaves that are used in decorating the facades of the houses here in Pahiyas Festival.

Aside from the vibrant kipings, various farm products like vegetables, and fruits, and even roasted pigs are exploited to the hilt just to make their house standout from the rest.

The celebration’s humble beginnings can be traced back to the early 1950’s when a parish priest requested the residents to place their produce in front of their homes so that they would be blessed when he would pass them, instead of carrying their mobile wooden houses in the parish church to be blessed.

Filipino houses were built this was and we were some of turtles or something…

Nowadays everyone can take part in the celebration not just the farmers.

This year’s celebration of the Pahiyas Festival will lasts for more than one month to give tourists ample time to get here and at the same time showcase this one of a kind tradition further.

This festivity in Lucban is the second largest festival in the Philippines next to Cebu’s Sinulog Festival, and this is not surprising since the sights and sounds here is enormous. You can even experience the Filipino’s hospitality at its finest as you are welcome to dine in for free as they give you their toothy and warm smile.

If you find your way to the top tourist destination here in the Philippines such as Boracay and Palawan take pleasure in the scrumptious dishes here spruced up by the rich and mouthwatering Filipino Recipes.
