The Historic Inauguration of Benigno Noynoy Aquino as the 15th Philippine President

Updated on October 9, 2010

Noynoy Aquino Inaugurated as the 15th Philippine President

The Philippines, a nation which is hungry for a real change now have another President inaugurated this June 30, 2010, with hopes high that poverty will be minimized if not totally eradicated and genuine development will push through further even in the far flung places in the country. This day is not only a big day for President Benigno "'Noynoy" Aquino who is the son of the assassinated hero Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino and the late Philippine President and Times Magazine Woman of the Year Awardee Corazon “Cory” Aquino but to the whole Filipino nation as well.

An estimated half million Filipinos trooped to the Quirino Grandstand and tens of millions of Filipinos watched the momentous celebration on their television to witness another history that was just unveiled. Numerous foreign dignitaries and other celebrities and famous personalities also came in droves to have an eye-witness account of the historic event.

The Filipinos here and abroad was treated to the versatility of their compatriots in terms of their prowess in music, as selected and talented singers graced the event with sheer elegance and wonderful rendition of inspirational Filipino songs.

The new member of the popular TV show in the United States, that is the “Glee,” and singing sensation Charice Pempengco sang the Philippine National Anthem with classiness and style. The Philippine Harmonic Orchestra, the world choir champions, the Philippine Madrigal Singers, and other talented performers like Asian singing champion Regine Velasquez, TV Host and comedian Ogie Alcasid, the dynamic Kundirana, the patriotic Noel Cabangon, the enigmatic Apo Hiking Society, the effervescent Christian Bautista and many more performers treated the Filipinos with heartwarming rendition of songs that is also teeming with messages that encourages and motivates the Filipino people to eradicate the errors of the past and instead push forward further in helping the nation towards its thrust to progress.

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile who is also one of the chief engineers in the dethronement of the then dictator Ferdinand Marcos, proclaimed the victory of Aquino and also his Vice President Jejomar Binay (who mounted a dramatic late surge to upend his favored opponent Mar Roxas for the second most powerful position in the country).

The inauguration was culminated by a rousing and peppery speech of Aquino, which draw cheers and delights from a fraction of the crowd that handed him an overwhelming landslide win in the last May 10, 2010 elections held in the country. The first ever bachelor President in the country, bowed to uplift the country from the shackles of underdevelopment and sorry for the word “corruption.”

The newly installed President promised to the Filipino nation that corruption like redtape, counterflow and the likes will be curbed and eventually be eliminated. The government’s endeavor of building bridges, buildings, schools and other infrastructures will be smooth and free from corruption. He also stated that major improvements will be dished out in the education system of the country, the agricultural sector, and in tax collection in the Bureau of Customs and Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The problems of the nation are truly immense and it will take only a genuine and strong leadership of President to solve all of them. Aquino who wants to be called P-noy might be the leader the Filipinos are waiting for and with fervent hope he can finally turn the tide for his people who are already crippled by corruption and inept governance for the past few decades.
